I
became a real estate agent—and, specifically,
an agent with Evers & Co.—because of the wonderful
experience I had buying my house in 1984 with
Donna Evers as my agent. Donna made the famously
stressful process of buying a house seem so
easy and pleasant that I jumped at her invitation
to join her new company in 1987. At the time
I had a successful but travel-heavy career
in criminal justice, a husband, two small
children, and a third child on the way. It
was admittedly tough to manage. When Donna
opened the door to a new career, I thought,
“What could be better? I’ll get to meet new
people, look at houses in great communities,
and still spend time with my children.” I
walked through the door, and I’ve never looked
back.
More than wanting to be someone who sold houses,
I wanted to be a “Community Connection.” The
idea of community was one of the things that
drew me most powerfully to this career. My
background in sociology and criminology had
helped me understand and appreciate the various
threads that create the wonderful fabric we
call “a community.” Even in my early days
as a real estate agent, I knew that the houses
that my clients were buying and selling were
much more than physical structures, however
beautiful they might be: They were places
to live, places where people create
memories and become part of the fabric of
their community. Just as a house gets “character”
from its many specific details, so does a
community get character from the specific
people who live there. That’s one of the most
important factors for me as I help buyers
find a house or help sellers promote theirs.
It’s important to know that I don’t just talk
the talk about community. I’m passionate about
my own community of Somerset, where I have
lived with my family since Donna Evers helped
us buy our house in 1984. Its combination
of historic, character-filled houses and friendly
people has always been just right for my family—my
husband, Marty, our three children and me.
It has given us so much, and I am thrilled
at any opportunity to give back. Among my
many community volunteer activities over the
years, I’m a founding member and treasurer
of the Somerset Elementary School Educational
Foundation, chair of the Town of Somerset
Welcoming Committee, and a primary sponsor
of Somerset’s annual Back-to-School Classic
8K, 2K and Fun Runs.
My belief in community and my extensive familiarity
with the market drive the way I serve my clients.
Having grown up in the Washington, D.C., area
and been a real estate agent since 1987, I
have in-depth knowledge of the communities
where I work. In addition to knowing the neighborhoods,
streets and houses, I know the ebb and flow
of each place, what makes it tick, what draws
its residents together. I cherish the opportunity
to helping buyers find their own community,
whether it’s a neighborhood with the urban
vibrancy of Washington, D.C., the historic
aura of Chevy Chase, or the suburban ambience
of Bethesda or Potomac. I bring the same dedication
to selling a house, devising innovative marketing
strategies to promote a house and community
in the best possible way.
Over the years, I have established myself
not just as a skilled real estate professional,
but also as one who takes the time to get
to know my clients, deliver outstanding service,
and produce great results. It’s not enough
to know about houses and neighborhoods—though
I do. It’s not enough to know how to write
a great contract—though I do. Being a successful
real estate agent also means being truly devoted
to the people-to-people aspects of the process—listening,
negotiating and communicating. It also means
persevering. Because I bring all those qualities
to my work, I’ve been one of the top three
agents at Evers & Co. every year since 1994,
and its number one agent since 2002.
When it’s time to buy or sell a house, I hope
you’ll turn to me—Bonnie Lewin, Your Community
Connection. I will devote all the knowledge,
skill and dedication I have to understanding
and meeting your needs.
